When you think of filmmaking, you probably picture Los Angeles and Hollywood. You wouldn’t be wrong—many movies are made there! However, a few films are created quite close to home. In fact, here are five movies filmed in Macon in 2019.
Netflix is now one of the driving forces in the film industry—and they’re bringing their business to our town with “Hillbilly Elegy.” Directed by Ron Howard, the film takes place in 1946. It’s based on a memoir by J.D. Vance. Even though the book takes place in Kentucky, they’re shooting this family-based story in our very own city.
Zombieland: Double Tap
The first “Zombieland” movie was a cult classic, and fans patiently waited a whole decade for a sequel. Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin all reprised their original roles alongside returning director Ruben Fleisher. Avan Jogia, Zoey Deutch, and Luke Wilson also joined the cast of the movie, which was released this past October.
Wondering where it was filmed? We know: Edgewood Avenue, Broadway, and Eisenhower Parkway.
The last of our movies filmed in Macon in 2019 has had fans abuzz for years: “Black Widow.” Part of the movie was filmed in our town in October—most likely reshoots.
Its famous titular character first appeared on screens all the way back in 2010 for “Iron Man 2.” As one of two of the main Avengers without a feature film to her name, the Russian spy—and her movie—have been the cause of plenty of speculation. Luckily, Marvel buffs don’t have long to wait—the Scarlett Johansson-starring film will hit screens on May 1. Directed by at Cate Shortland, the movie also stars big names like Rachel Weisz, Florence Pugh, and David Harbor.
Creating films and television shows in Georgia can mean huge tax breaks for companies. In fact, even video game makers can earn tax credits when they craft games in the Peach State. So, it makes sense that several movies were filmed in Macon in 2019.
